Fall Fest! Not just a walk in the park!

By Roy Emmett January 15, 2017
But that’s where it starts! October 29, 2016 is an entirely special day. In fact, it’s slated to be a “Nothing-but-Fun-Day” – all day! We know what you’re thinking, “fun” is what you make it, and whose fun-day is it anyway? Is this for kids, couples, singles, adults, seniors – which one? Let’s take a little walk right now, sort of, to give you a pretty good idea of what will be going on at the Citrus Grove Community Park located at 2507 SW Citrus Blvd. from 10 – 4 on October 29th

Get up early and have a nice breakfast. Put on your walking clothes, your Nikes, or Keds, and leave your home about 9:15 or so. Drive on out to the park (put it in your GPS if you’re not certain where it is) and park. THEN – what you do first may depend on certain circumstances. If you have small children with you, they will tell you which place you have to go first, such as the “Fun Bus.” It will be obvious. If not, ask Smokey Bear for advice. That choice will of course present a discussion if Mom and Dad are both there, and they both should be if at all possible. Be honest, and fair. One of you will volunteer to go with the kids because that’s not an option, and the other can volunteer to go to the Car Show where row after row of old cars, muscle cars, hot rods, fantasy cars, flashy cars, and those cars from yester-years will be lined up and ready to take you back to a time well before you had any kids.

Regrouping is easy because you both have Smart Phones, now filled with fresh pictures to share. Next you’ll want to take a trip down “Food Vendor Lane.” That’s where you’ll find special treats like root beer and cotton candy, and/or the Beer Tent. Breakfast is still settling so walk slowly past all the scents and taunts coming from the awesome special lunch and munch vendors who will be mustering up an unbelievable array of impossible-to-ignore specials for the day. The idea is to stake out what everyone will want for lunch, when that time comes.

So make your way to the Palm City Chamber of Commerce tent and say hello! Right there in the tent next to theirs, you’ll find around 300 stacks of business cards placed there by some of the best businesses in the county! One of you hold onto the kids while the other sweeps through to pick up a selection of cards for your personal roll-a-deck or card file. One day, you WILL need these cards from the Community Business Center!

Then work your way back to Booth Vendors Lane and visit virtually every business tent along the way. It’s kind of like Trick or Treat with little candies, trinkets and games but even better are the fantastic deals many will have arranged just for this special day! There’s a very good chance that you’ll even meet some of your neighbors along the way so you can plan to meet up at the Entertainment Area with that root beer or real beer in hand to hear some super music and just relax for a while. Then it’s back to lunch-roulette where everybody will want something different – and that’s OK, because it’s a special day for everyone! Then, give the kids a break and both of you take them back to the “Kids Area” where they can play their hearts out. More great pictures. An extra beer to go along will allow you two to toast each other for planning such a great day, and the kids will be ready for sleep nice and early.

If you don’t have kids, had kids in the past, just want a romantic day in the park or have some strange desire to have your face painted to attract attention, Fall Fest is for EVERYONE!

It’s only 6 hours long, from start to finish, so give yourselves the max time. And with all that good food and those tantalizing snacks, Mom won’t have to cook dinner. Everybody wins! It’s a shame Fall Fest only comes once a year! LONG LIVE FALL FEST!
