Looking to add a few new books to your bookshelf this month? Or maybe have a New Year's resolution to read more? Here are a few January-themed books that would be a great addition to your child's collection.

1. Strega Nona (January 4th - National Spaghetti Day) - Strega Nona—“Grandma Witch”—is the source for potions, cures, magic, and comfort in her Calabrian town. Her magical ever-full pasta pot is very interesting to fellow resident Big Anthony. Big Anthony is supposed to look after her house and tend her garden but, when she goes over the mountain to visit Strega Amelia, he recites the magic verse over the pasta pot, with catastrophic results.

2. Little Owl’s Night (January 5th - National Bird Day) - Readers follow a sweet baby owl on their adventure throughout the forest during the night where they make new friends and learn so much about the place they call home.

3. The Miracle of Saint Nicholas (January 7th - Orthodox Christmas) - It was the day before Christmas in a small Russian village. Alexi's babushka was telling him what Christmas was like when she was a girl - before the soldiers came. So unfolds a story which shows how faith and hope can not be suppressed.

4. Do You Have a Hat? (January 15th- National Hat Day) - The perfect blend of a cute picture book and introduction to many historical figures. All around great read.

5. I am Martin  Luther King Jr.(Ordinary People Change the World) (January 17th - Martin Luther King Dr. Day) - This friendly, fun biography series inspired the PBS Kids TV show Xavier Riddle and the Secret Museum. This book highlights the life of Martin Luther King Jr, and how he bravely led the way in the Civil Rights Movement.

6. Betty Bunny Loves Chocolate Cake (January 27th - National Chocolate Cake Day) - Readers follow Betty Bunny as she learns the value of healthy eating habits and a lesson in patience.

Best wishes and happy reading.
